Well, it’s Christmas again and this year has seen Santa coming to town like all the others.
As for the classic song of the same name, most have lost count of its many renditions and covers. Apparently there are over 200 versions so far though. So, there’s that.
“The main reason Santa is so jolly is because he knows where all the bad girls live.”
– George Carlin
“Santa Claus is Coming to Town” was originally written by James “Haven” L. Gillespie and John F. Coots. We’d mention the lyrics, but we’ve all been there. Repeatedly. Really, you already know them.
Everybody and their grandma has spat out a cover for this song. It’s truly ridiculous, as only Christmas music can be. Some are superb. Others are… tolerable. Many are surreal.
Where many have failed to do this once passable song justice, more show up each year to climb their putrid carcasses in search of sweet Christmas glory. As to who keeps handing artists fresh cleavers to get on with their unholy butchery of Christmas music, the world may never know.

The Jackson 5 jazzed it up a bit with their version. For some reason, Michael Buble’s cover proved inordinately successful as well. Apparently George Hall really hit a home run with the tune back in 1934 too. Yes, this has been going on for that long.
“One can never have enough socks,” said Dumbledore. “Another Christmas has come and gone and I didn’t get a single pair. People will insist on giving me books.”
– J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
