Raiding Area 51 - But WTH is Area 51 Anyway?

Area 51 - a military facility in basically nowhere, Nevada - has earned the suspicion of just about every conspiracy theorist to carry the card over the years. But, seriously... What is it?
To this day, despite documents having been released in 2013 describing some of its 'declassified' history, the mysterious U.S. Air Force base remains an enigma to the general public. So much so, in fact, that over 1 million people have just agreed to raid it in September of this year (2019) and unearth its numerous alleged secrets.

The rallying cry for Area 51 infiltration took place on Facebook as an obvious joke turned ambiguously serious when a deluge of people joined in. Looks like far more individuals are interested in the base than anyone might have surmised.
The actual 'event' plan is an overt exercise in hilarity entitled "Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us"
"We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry. If we Naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Lets see them aliens."

Area 51 has been acknowledged by many to be a weapons testing facility of some sort, but details drift south of the logic line into the realm of folklore pretty fast from there.
Area 51's first official purpose was apparently to serve solely as a testing ground for an aircraft known as the "Dragon Lady" or "Lockheed U-2". Operated by the CIA, this Daenerys of the skies was apparently capable of 'gathering intelligence' from high altitudes in any weather and at any time of day or night during the Cold War. But, that's not creepy at all.

In addition to new inventions developed for testing in the U.S., Area 51 also hosted a number of "foreign technology" evaluations, testing a range of aircraft (at the least) against domestic benchmarks.

A number of odd incidents involving strange chemicals and the visible authorization of military personnel to use lethal force against any and all trespassers only helps to further rouse the public's suspicion of the goings on in this secretive base.
Even military air traffic is kept at bay from the base itself. Training military pilots can face serious consequences for getting too close.

Many believe Area 51 to be a literal alien life-form studying facility. Allegations range from tech salvaged out of Roswell's famous incident being reverse-engineered on site to full-blown ongoing Men in Black operations taking place.
Hopefully the million-strong group of raiders will get to the bottom of things.
