Life, angle grinders, basements (zaibatsu), 04/24/2019
------------------------------------------------------------
Working on the basement today. The bathroom is going in
first, for practical reasons. To be honest, having a one-
bathroom house really hasn't been bad, but the wife would
prefer not to have everyone rushing everyone else if
possible. It's a luxury to even have the one, if you really
think about it. Of course, people are generally busy calling
their luxuries necessities, and not the other way around.
The basement was already piped for the bathroom, which is a
great thing, as I'm not sure I would have been up to
smashing the floor and putting in pipes. In the area that
was planned for the purpose there are three drain pipes on
the ground (for the sink, toilet, and tub, presumably.) The
toilet and tub pipes were put in rough and never finished,
which means there was about 5" of steel pipe sticking out of
the floor with a concrete plug in each one.
Previously I drilled through the concrete to make sure it
was in fact just a plug. That was successful. Today I
purchased an angle grinder at the local hardware store,
along with a metal cutting disc, and got to work. I just
finished cutting off the large toilet drain pipe, which was
much easier than I expected it would be.
Poured a couple gallons down the drain to make sure it
worked, and everything seems to be doing well. Next I'll
install a toilet there, before moving on to the drywall and
other finishing items.
This is a post about life. Cutting pipes was what life
included today... it could be a lot worse!
