Toki Pona/Vocab, (vernunftzentrum.de), 07/21/2018
------------------------------------------------------------
Today is day 1 of 12 in my effort to memorize the 120 main
words in Toki Pona. I formatted the ODS version of the
dictionary for two-column landscape printing and made myself
a physical copy. I'm using a Gregg ruled notebook[1], in
which I will copy, read, write, and rewrite both the words
and definitions daily.
Day 1 Words:
a / kin emphasis, emotion
akesi non-cute animal, amphibian, reptile
ala no, not, zero (0)
alasa to hunt, to forage
ali / ale all, every,
everything, bountiful, life, universe
(100)
anpa bow low, downward, lowly, dependant
anu or
ante changed, altered, other, different
awen stay, remain,
to continue on
e (before definite object)
Writing this post was my final test for the day; if you've
looked at the dictionary[2], you'll note that my definitions
aren't 100% complete. I wrote them from memory, and got as
close as I could for each word. I think I captured the
feeling of most of the words, and I'm hopeful that using
them will help me be more familiar with all of the
definitions.
I've also determined that during the next 12 days while I
memorize vocabulary, I need to continue learning something
about the language. I'm not accustomed to learning a
language via the rules of the language, and would prefer to
learn with phrases, but with Toki Pona I'm not sure there is
much difference. I've downloaded a set of lessons, and used
pdfshuffler and boomaga to format them into a nice booklet,
which I plan on printing and using. Hopefully I'll have
something to report on that front soon.
