Re: cca.261: newsgroup selection
In newsgroup matching, ALL is similar to sh(I)'s *
and . is similar to sh(I)'s /.
Articles are submitted to an unordered set of newsgroups,
and read by subscribing to an " " ".
An article submitted to "vlsi, graphics" will be read by
anyone subscribing to "vlsi", or "graphics", or "graphics, vlsi".
Newsgroups implement a keyword-based retrieval system.
The subscription (meta) newsgroup "taxALL" matches tax, taxes,
taxation, and taxonomy, and "tALL" matches telecom and taxes.
News is certainly not a real bibliographic retrieval system.
It does have a title matcher: "news -a -t setuid" find articles
whose articles contain "setuid" (but not suid or even Setuid).
Maybe we should add: "news -a -T setuid" to search the entire article.
