Foreign Tape Programs
>From chico!teklabs!tekmdp!steveg@Berkeley Thu Oct 15 20:36:00 1981
There is a program kicking around here called backup10 to read and
write PDP-10 format BACKUP tapes in interchange mode (BACKUP is a
predecessor to TOPS20 DUMPER) [This is the one mentioned by Clem Cole].
It needs to be hacked to ignore some DUMPER/TOPS20 specific information
that has been added to the format (we have TOPS10 so it never got
done). It's derived from a V6 program written by Mike Accetta at CMU,
so there might be a newer version available from that source. We
converted it to run under V7 but I suspect that somebody at CMU has
now converted it to 4.1BSD.
We also have a program for reading ANSII format tapes [anstp(1)]. It
might be useful in coping with VMS as those are supposed to be ANSII,
but... [written by Steve McGeady (teklabs!tekmdp!stevenm) based on an
older one by Dave Kellerman]
Finally there is a program to read DOS format tapes (like those used by
RSTS) entitled pip.
If you want more details, I'll send you the manual pages (and source)
on request. If somebody on ARPANET wants the stuff, things will be a
bit more difficult. If there's enough demand, the stuff may show up on
a USENIX tape.
