Subject: Gopher Jewels Announcement

It is with deep regret that I must announce the closing of the
Gopher Jewels, Gopher Jewels - Talk and Eye On Government Lists.

I've been too busy with my paying job to contribute to the lists
and the work load is continuing to grow. I've been holding off
on any action in hopes that things would change, but it doesn't
look like my time is going to free up any time soon. The kind
folks at EINet have been doing all the hard work in the back
ground to ensure the lists are running. Recent changes in their
operations make it impossible to continue that effort and so I
am faced with accepting the inevitable.

We plan to turn off the lists on Monday the 8th of May. No
action is required on your part such as unsubscribing.

The Gopher Jewels gopher will continue to operate until the host
sites remove them, but I am also unable to keep it updated for
the same reasons. We will continue to maintain the list
archives and they can be accessed from option one of the gopher.

It is difficult to let go of my early projects...kind of like
letting go of a child. I'd like to thank all of you for
supporting my efforts. You folks have been a pleasure to
connect with and I feel a little guilty in letting you down. I
always knew that these services would eventually come to an end,
but hoped it would be much later.

I'd like to thank Bruce Speyer and the folks at EINet for their
support of the project. Without them, none of this would have
been possible. I'd also like to thank the sites around the
world that host the Gopher Jewels gopher. They too have been
critical in the success of this project. And finally, I'd like
to thank Gleason Sackman with the Net Happenings list for
passing on the early announcements that got this off the ground
and the folks at Turning Point Information Service for
establishing the original Gopher Jewels list before moving it to
EINet.

This is the best example of how a group of individuals from all
over the world can come together to create one of the most
popular Internet services of its time. I'll always cherish what
we did and the relationships it formed.

The very best to everyone and thanks again for all the support
you have given.
