5 Amazing Christmas Songs You Need to Hear This Year

Odd Nugget Social-done

Christmas comes round every single year, as does its associated bulk of brain-numbing carols.

Don't get us wrong, here; we love Christmas music about as much as the next penguin cult, but it might be time to switch things up.

We've got 5 Christmas tracks you might not be familiar with yet, but ought to include in this year's festivities for a much needed change of pace. Fine, you can listen to Mariah Carey again this year too.

Snow, hail and sleet freeze our feet night and day.

But, cold weather can't quite keep this Christmas away.

"Quit kicking me under the table!"

Imogen Heap's "Just For Now" serves as musical testament to the oft-overlooked turmoil of the holiday season.

Heap's unique layering of vocals over soft pop synth magic makes this song a seasonal treat nice enough to enjoy year-round. Yep, we aren't the only ones who do that kind of thing.

"All I want this Christmas is to keep your body warm."

Jagged Edge embed soul and sensuality in, well, all their music, really, but especially in "This Christmas".

Not the usual "This Christmas," despite its shared name; this "This Christmas" sounds much more like the late night version of Yuletide, if you know what we mean. *Wink, wink

**Chaotic guitar squeals and feedback...

Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "A Mad Russian's Christmas" blends heavy metal drama with Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker compositions to satisfyingly indulgent effect.

Basically, this track's name is as indicative of its sound as anything could ever be.

"I know I've been naughty, but cut me some slack 'cause there's a lot of cool sh!t I want."

Tenacious D and Sum41 step in with holiday heavy metal so epic it's outright satirical in "Things I Want".

Fast, furious and intentionally ridiculous, this Christmas track is nothing but trouble.

"That magic feeling almost hits me tonight."

Mike Brunacini's "Christmas Magic" brings things down a notch from Tenacious D and TSO to instill an abiding sense of Christmas sensitivity in your soul.

We've mentioned Mike's music on mutliple occasions here, including this very song. All our points still stand, it's just great all around. Maybe keep some tissues handy, though.

For more music and all the tunes we've come up with in this teeny list, keep your eyes on our 'An Odd Christmas' Spotify playlist. We promise to keep it as odd as possible.
